Launch confidence
- Commercial use: built-in tile art is for painting and table/VTT export — not for redistributing Hexus stock tiles in a shipped commercial game. Exports & licensing →
- VTT imports: start with known-good defaults in the VTT cheat sheet and misalignment fixes.
- Beta status: see what is live vs in progress on launch status.
“I exported a hexcrawl as Universal VTT the same evening I signed up — grid alignment checked out in Foundry after the Pro bundle import.”
“The JSON export let me prototype overworld logic without redrawing — I pair it with our own art pipeline for the vertical slice.”
“Quickstart templates got us to a playable frontier map before session zero. PNG for Discord, UVTT when we moved to the VTT.”
How Hexus compares
Balanced comparisons for high-intent shoppers — strengths, trade-offs, and migration paths.
Hex maps for your game pipeline.
Hexus exports structured map JSON and texture key manifests — plus PNG/SVG when you need a visual reference. Built-in art is for templating inside Hexus, not commercial redistribution.
Exports developers use
| Format | Contains | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Map JSON | Tiles, overlays, annotations, meta | Re-import, tooling, game logic |
| Texture keys | Overlay key list | Asset pipeline planning |
| PNG / SVG | Baked visuals | Prototypes, docs, pitches |
| Universal VTT | Hex grid metadata + flat render pairing | VTT import (free, signed-in) |
Quickstart templates
Strategy Prototype and hexcrawl starters give you a seeded grid — paint terrain, export JSON, wire keys in your engine.
Map JSON does not embed image files. Built-in Hexus keys resolve inside Hexus; shipping a commercial title requires your own art or licensed marketplace packs. See Exports & licensing and Terms.
